The Rotary Projects: You will participate in a variety of Rotary-supported projects. The types of activities you will undertake at these facilities will depend on your skills/talents, e.g. you may teach English, teach piano, knit, be able to help with maintenance, etc. Your volunteer work will be tailored to maximise the value we can add to the lives of disadvantaged Nepalese people. This itinerary gives you a guideline.
Donations of goods: Several projects we visit, such as schools and orphanages, have asked us to make donations of needed items such as rice and books. It may be easier and cheaper to buy some of these items in Nepal, but you will be given more advice on this one the team has been finalised. It is up to you how much you contribute towards the purchase of such items.
Fundraising: You have the option to undertake fundraising to help fund your trip or the goods you may purchase to donate to projects. Aside from the goods we donate, each person is asked to raise $150 which will be donated to a worthy project. At this stage, we may fund an operation for a child who has a severely deformed face. He has been identified by a Nepalese Rotary Club. More to follow.
Weather: Whilst the monsoon season is supposed to finish by mid September, please bring wet weather gear in case. It may be humid at times.
Medical Assessment: In order to take part in this trip, you will need to obtain a medical clearance from your doctor, including the declaration of all pre-existing medical conditions. Participants must be of a moderate fitness level and be mobile enough to walk on uneven surfaces for up to 2-3 km. If you wish to undertake the day trek, you must be able to walk on uneven, steep ground for up to 7km in humid weather.
Flexibility: Things can change from day to day in Nepal. Road conditions can often be difficult. This trip requires participants to be flexible and aware that the itinerary may change due to unforeseen circumstances. We will make every effort to ensure things go according to plan!
