Eyes Wide Open

Eyes Wide Open gives people like you the opportunity to see the world and make a difference by getting involved in Rotary International’s humanitarian projects in Asia and Australia’s Northern Territory. Eyes Wide Open tours are open to anyone and provide a meaningful way to see new destinations, experience new cultures and volunteer your skills to help communities in need.

  • As a participant of an Eyes Wide Open tour, you will contribute to a range of Rotary projects that directly contribute to the welfare of the communities you visit.
  • By becoming involved with local communities, you will receive real, grass roots experiences that tourists don't have and come to understand the plight of people whose daily struggle is survival. Our hope is that even once participants are back in the comfort of their homes, they may be inspired to help contribute to solutions towards a better world.

As Eyes Wide Open heads off to Nepal this week, Cambodia & Vietnam 2010 is now on offer!

This 14 day trip (30 Jan - 13 Feb) is an organised, safe and engaging way to make a difference to the lives of underprivileged people living in Cambodia and Vietnam.

You will undertake volunteer work at six Rotary projects including the Sunrise Children's Village, the Greek Gecko Centre for Street Children and the Unwed Mother's Home of Saigon. As well as teaching and conducting art classes, there's painting and maintenance to be done at these projects in need of our time, skills and most of all hope.

The trip will of course include cultural visits to ancient wonders like Angkor Wat and sobering historical sites such as the Killing Fields in Phnom Penh. Download the itinerary for further details. Bookings must be received by 30 November 2009.

Wide Eyed: 42-year-old Alison Rae Jones, a professional opera singer, describes her Eyes Wide Open trip to Nepal (30 Sep – 19 Oct 2009)

IMG_3012.jpgWhen my friend Sue rang to ask if I would be interested in going to Nepal with Eyes Wide Open, I practically jumped down the phone at the opportunity to travel to a country I would never have visited of my own volition.  I had heard all about a previous Eyes Wide Open trip to Vietnam and Cambodia and was inspired and excited by the idea of a broad based humanitarian trip.
